The Midi Music Company founded the Tom ap Rhys Pryce Music Bursary Award in 2003. It was initially funded by London Borough of Lewisham and awarded to four children from The Budding Musicians Club, aged between six and fifteen years old, offering a year’s free, one-to-one instrumental tuition at The Conservatoire. The subsequent success of the bursary winners has enabled us to increase the number of awards from four to ten per year with the financial support of the Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust and funding partnerships facilitated by The Conservatoire.
The Conservatoire added to this partnership by introducing extended burseries for the bursary winners who had displayed the highest level of commitment and talent, so they could receive a further two years of tuition. We are extremely grateful to the Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust for investing in young musicians from diverse communities and supporting our work.
Past BMC student and a winner of the bursary many years ago, Michelle O’Faith, won the ‘Women Make Music Award’ funded by PRSF. You can read the full article here.
