Speakers

6pm-6.45pm – Rob Fitzpatrick – Director of Content Strategy – Utopia Music

Rob Fitzpatrick’s 30+ year career in music has taken him from running an indie record shop in the early 90s, to making electronic and acoustic music, touring and remixing as half of Ronnie & Clyde, then spending a decade travelling the world as a music journalist, writing for NME, The Guardian, The Word, The Sunday Times and many others. Rob joined Spotify in early 2012 with the clear intention of creating vivid storytelling and context around music – starting with the hugely popular 101 Strangest Records on Spotify column which ran in The Guardian for two years – before being asked to lead the UK’s playlisting team in late 2013. Here Rob created playlist brands like New Pop RevolutionMusic For ConcentrationAll New All Now and Hot Hits UK which currently have in excess of 5m followers between them. In 2014 Rob was recruited to the very first iteration of Spotify’s Original Content team and worked with Artist Marketing, Publishing, Licensing and Video teams in Los Angeles, New York, London and Stockholm to create original audio and video products such as Spotify’s biggest ever audio documentary series, Stay Free: The Story of The Clash, the music and mental health podcast, Killing It and the multi-award winning Decode. In 2022 Rob joined the Swiss Tech & Music Service Provider Utopia as Director of Content Strategy with the aim of supporting their mission to close the data gap and ensure Fair Pay For Every Play. Utopia Music is a Swiss Music fintech company levelling up the Music Industry through clear, transparent, and reliable data-based solutions. We support the whole Industry to make more money, faster, with fewer costs and errors.
