Following the launch of Tideway’s vision for public art, the search is continuing for artists to help create permanent pieces of work at Thames Tideway Tunnel sites across London.
Tideway is seeking an artist to design a piece of work or a series of commissions for Deptford Church Street in Lewisham!
As part of the Art on the Tideway programme, the commission will help to express the legacy of the Thames Tideway Tunnel including Tideway’s goal to reconnect London with the River Thames and to enhance public spaces across the city.  It will also help illustrate the experience of the river for Londoners and visitors.

The selected artist will develop bespoke and site-specific integrated artworks for the site with the design team and the local community.  It could include sculptural interventions within the landscape or closer collaborations with the design team on materials, finishes, pattern or text.  The approach will need to respond to the individual site’s context and history, informed by Tideway’s Heritage Interpretation and Public Art strategies, which were officially launched two weeks ago.

The successful artist will work collaboratively with the design and engineering teams to develop detailed proposals for the commission in mid to late 2017, and oversee the fabrication and installation at a later date.

Tideway welcomes applications from artists working in all disciplines, though given the nature of commissions prior experience of working at scale and in three dimensions would be advantageous.  Applications from artists who are based in the London Borough of Lewisham or with a good knowledge of the Deptford area are especially encouraged.
The deadline for the open call is 12pm midday Sunday 2 April 2017.
