Introducing CICAS® Spotlight – a weekly series that shines a light on our incredibly talented CICAS® artists and alumni, and to show how you can find your path with us.
Signkid is a London-based writer, producer, rapper and award-nominated filmmaker who has broken down barriers and paved the way for Deaf creatives in the music industry. Signkid has been a CICAS® member since 2014, and through the programme’s guidance, artist development and mentorship, has gone on to achieve remarkable things.
Most recently, Signkid made a musical short film with BBC Arts titled ‘Silent World’, a visualisation of how COVID-19 has intensified and deepened the sense of isolation, fear and societal disconnection that the hearing world has been experiencing – the sort of isolation that Deaf people experience every day.
The exceptional film has been nominated for 7 selection awards in 5 different festivals, including the Slamdance Film Festival, ReelAbilities Film Festival New York, Deaffest and On The Pulse Short Film Festival.
