Jay Johnson 7.30pm

Acoustic Rap

Jay Johnson is an award-winning musician and songwriter who moved to London and began making music before his teenage years. Jay’s naturally curious mind led him to learn the cello, then teach himself to play the guitar. He started listening to artists such as Bob Dylan, Paolo Nutini, and Ben Howard from his early teens, and as a result their influences can often be seen in his original works.

Jay eventually began by writing original songs, then busking the streets of London, followed by performances at pubs and venues. A few months after he started playing to live crowds in various venues, Jay decided to leave his previous career plans of becoming a doctor behind and to become a full-time musician. His most recent music features the styles of the early hip-hop artists, whom he was exposed to at an even younger age.

8.30pm  Jelly Cleaver

Jazz // DIY

Jelly Cleaver is a guitarist, producer and singer-songwriter based in South London, and has been called ‘the next artist to make an impact on the London Jazz Scene’. She’s received the Steve Reid InNOVAtion award, signed to tastemaker indie label Nice Swan Records and was nominated for an Ivors Composer Award. With an eclectic taste in music, Jelly is heavily involved in both the jazz and DIY/punk scenes in London, running the regular Jelly’s Jams night at Windmill Brixton. She’s also an activist, and a strain of political dissent runs through her music.
