The Midi Music Company (MMC) prides itself on fostering an environment that inspires and supports up-and-coming artists. In conversation with CICAS® Podcast host Anwar Harris, Maisie Goulsbra, a South London, Lincolnshire-raised artist and singer, discussed the release of her debut EP, ‘When You’re Near’, recorded on-site with a full live band at MMC.
After dabbling with music throughout her childhood, Maisie overcame her anxieties about performing. Before launching her singing career, she studied and worked in music journalism. Covering the industry only made her desire to perform louder; however, the knowledge she gained from writing helped ease her transition into becoming an artist within that same industry, stating:
“I still think of that as a form of my voice. I really think, firstly, writing was there for me when I didn’t feel able to sing … it’s really given me a lot in terms of growth and finding a voice through writing.”
The decision to part ways with music journalism prompted Maisie’s journey to release her debut EP, ‘When You’re Near’. This transitional period led to three tracks on the EP, each exploring a different type of love. She took her time developing these tracks to ensure they had the exact sound she was looking for while using her life experiences to fuel her inspiration. Maisie expressed:
“I’ve been on quite a healing journey over the last few years and done quite a lot of growing and developing personally, but that is also related to music and singing and my voice. First and foremost, singing songs that are kind of like singing myself or willing myself into a better place or better version of myself – that was my intention.”
Earlier this year, Maisie collaborated with MMC to bring her songs to life. MMC is an innovative music education and talent development charity equipped with a full recording & live studio. She worked with MMC’s studio engineer, Ahmad Dayes, to record full live band recordings of the tracks.
The lead single ‘The Way You Woo’ was released on the 16th of October 2026, with the second single ‘It’s About Love’ to be released on the 6th of November 2026, followed by the release of her debut EP: ‘When You’re Near’ out on the 27th of November 2026.
