This cultural music project between Salvador and the London Borough of Lewisham enabled international musicians Letieres Leite Quinteto and South London based band United Vibrations to create a new piece of music and perform together. There was a cultural visit to the National Skills Academy – CCSKills and a programme of school workshops and master classes led by The Midi Music Company. These were delivered in partnership with the British Music Experience O2, Ginga P, and The Albany.
Over 50 participants were able to work with the quintet to understand the history of Bahian music & African rhythms, make music with Letieres whilst he arranged live compositions, and understand the importance of the ‘Atabaque’ drum – transferring rhythms from the atabaque drum onto harmonic instruments, and exploring various drumming patterns of Brazil. These master classes and workshops took place at The Albany, British Music Experience O2, Forest Hill School, and Harris Academy Greenwich. During the project there were also live performances at The Albany and at The Barbican.
