Music Explosion Industry Talk & Networking provides exciting opportunities for anyone 16 years and over to enhance their understanding of the music industry.
Music Explosion Summer 2023 will focus on major record label logistics, working as a music lawyer, and building live performance opportunities. The talks will be followed by a networking session with refreshments provided.
Speakers
6pm-6.45pm: TJ – Director & Executive Producer – Rapture Records
TJ is a British record producer, multi-instrumentalist and live events promoter. He worked in finance before founding renowned events brand Sauce Ents in 2018, and the record label RRG (Rapture Record Group) in 2019. With a focus on new and emerging artists, RRG provides production, distribution, publishing, marketing and events. The label has partnered with artists such as PNVSN, Melody Hadebe, K-Soul, LJ, Cashh, Vic Santoro, Nina Rose, King Arthur, TXC, Tanhai Collective, Logic, JD Cliffe and many more. Currently, RRG has a monthly special residency in partnership with Market Row Rum at the Tooting Tram & Social, showcasing new and emerging music from across the UK and beyond, accompanied by an 8-piece live band.
7pm-7.45pm: Claire Shomade – Senior Legal & Business Affairs Manager – 0207 Def Jam Records
Claire began her music industry career in 2011, joining Island Records as an assistant to the legal director. She was privileged to work across Island’s iconic roster, including acts such as Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, U2, Jessie Ware & Disclosure. She has since worked at law firms, an independent music management company, and now heads up legal at the recently launched subsidiary of Universal Music, 0207 Def Jam Records. Claire’s work involves signing new artists to 0207, making sure the label has all the permissions needed to release music and generally provide commercial support to the 0207 team.
7.45pm – 8.30pm: Networking and Refreshments – Hosted by MMC Founder and Executive Director, Wozzy Brewster, OBE FRSA
Guests will be able to network after the talks, raise specific issues and questions, and clarify information shared in the previous sessions.
Wozzy is the founding Executive Director of The Midi Music Company (MMC) and Artist Manager for Future Afro Jazz four-piece United Vibrations and Ostroda World Reggae Champions, eight-piece Ska Reggae band Chainska Brassika who release their 3rd studio album, Tales of a Londoner, this March. She manages the band’s logistics, including royalty claims, song registrations, publisher, distributor and booking agent relationships, plus release coordination and press/media liaison.
Wozzy is a member of the UK Music Diversity Taskforce, the BPIs Music Export Growth Scheme Board, BRIT Voting Academy, Music Week Women in Music Diversity panel and other relevant forums. She delivers MMC’s CICAS® talent development programme for 16s – 30s and is an international youth arts consultant.
