Versatile violinist Rebekah Reid and band Täpp Collective have ridden the rollercoaster of a year that is 2020, to release their new single and short film Never Knew Why.
Reid began composing and recording the track at home during the national lockdown, using a classical violin and delay pedal to create the cinematic strings arrangement, lending to the track’s original and distinctive ‘orchestral grime’ sound.
Directed by Sylvia Suli and produced by Rebekah Reid and Fi Roberts, Never Knew Why is a jazz/drill conceptual piece that unapologetically addresses global movements such as Black Lives Matter and features a predominantly Black, female and non-binary cast of musicians and dancers.
Filled with sparkling wordplay from spokenword poets Chantelle Gabriella Jazz and Delali, the release also features CICAS® soul singer And Is Phi on vocals.
Don’t miss Täpp’s upcoming debut album, I like what I do // I do what I like, due for release in summer 2021.
